What can I say about Lehigh Valley Zoo? That its absolutely amazing and if you are ever in the Allentown, Pennsylvania area or plan to be you must have this place on your top places to visit!
The weather on the east coat is finally starting to cooperate where we can start our summer bucket list! We started looking for places close by to visit since Hailey, our daughter is still in school. So this week we found a cute little zoo we have not been to yet called the Lehigh Valley Zoo. It is nesseled in the middle of a beautiful nature preserve called Trexler. With a variety of entrances with a scenic view all the way to the zoo’s parking lot.
When venturing out of the preserve keep an eye out as you are most likely going to see bison and elk roaming the hills!!!
The Lehigh Valley Zoo is part of the Association of Zoos & Aquariums meaning it is a non-profit organization. They are a small zoo that is apart of the bigger picture. The idea is to help the animals and to repopulate the endangered species by bringing them into a safe environment.
The Lehigh Valley Zoo is working diligently by creating more open enclosures for their animals. Their view of housing animals is incredible with more open spaces and less fence-like enclosures making a very cool up close experience for their visitors.
So back to the bigger picture of helping animals, the Lehigh Valley Zoo has been successful in breeding several pairs of species including the Scimitar- Horned Oryx and the Mexican Grey Wolf which only less than a couple hundred exist in the wild.
The Lehigh Valley Zoo hopes to help other types of endangered animals as the years continue. Its not easy when animals are being hurt everyday with the expanding human population and constantly needing funds for those costly building necessities.
While visiting the Lehigh Valley Zoo we had the opportunity to feed the Giraffes, Murphy and Tatu. It was also Tatu’s first day out. Tatu is their new 2 year old Giraffe. He was so cute and he came up to us like a pro! I guess he’s not shy when it comes to food Haha!
I think our favorite exhibits were the little penguins and the otters. They were so cute swimming around their pools. One of the penguins even came up to us and did a little dance right in front of us!!!
Upcoming events
With the start of a new month and the weather being nicer, the zoo has a full lineup of events this summer! They have a variety of events going on during the weekends throughout the season for more information on upcoming events click HERE
Your part in saving animals
Most people won’t talk about this subject and I think it’s a shame. One day our animals could be gone whether its from forest deviation with the ever growing human population or the material waste and the toxins from it. Its kind of inevitable really and I can say this because its happening right now. So people and places like Lehigh Valley Zoo are here to help. I really feel like that their heart is in the right place.
Are you and your family planning a trip to the Pennsylvania area? If not you should be! There are some unforgettable places to visit from Hershey Park, Dutch Wonderland, and Dorney Park but you have to make sure to stop in to the Lehigh Valley Zoo!
